Re: Just want simple linear directions for simple task
So far, getting Audacity to recognize the compressor has been a major PITA. Have you got that working yet? We're aware that Apple have made changes to Gatekeeper which has caused problems with plug-ins for many Sierra users. Fortunately there is a workaround, so please ask if you still need help wi...

Do you have code for that?brian-armstrong wrote:Hm, I think that's a good improvement. I do like the stem version at one zoom level up from there, though.

Re: Audacity totally broke!
Audacity used to work faultlessly, and largely intuitively, "straight out of the box". Yes, but unfortunately Apple decided to change their "Gatekeeper" utility, which broke Audacity along with many other applications. The release of Audacity 2.1.3 has been slightly delayed, but...

Re: Audacity "connects the dots" when you zoom in
I believe these are often called Stem plots. That's a nice descriptive name. I think my favourite would be "sinc interpolation", which has the benefit of giving an indication of the "true peak level", though I've not yet attempted to code it. (this is a mock up / simulation) htt...

Re: Audacity "connects the dots" when you zoom in
A related question is: where exactly should the "dot" be located? Should it be at the beginning of the sample period (as now), in the middle, somewhere else, why?

Re: Audacity "connects the dots" when you zoom in
Just thinking, "Matlab" is a registered trademark, so we may not be able to call such an option "Matlab style samples". Any ideas what this style of graphic representation could be called?

Re: Audacity "connects the dots" when you zoom in
I have made an attempt to show what I mean. That works nicely at some zoom levels firsttrack015.png though as you say, it looks a bit strange when there's aliasing at lower zoom levels firsttrack016.png and also a bit sparse at maximum zoom firsttrack017.png and of course, those vertical lines don'...

Re: 32 bit float - deamplifying peaks results in flattened p
So are you suggesting that the peaks above 0dB are being flattened by the sound card before they arrive at Audacity? Yes, though with some hardware setups clipping could occur before the signal even gets to the sound card. For example, if you were recording something via a mixing console and massiv...

Re: 32 bit float - deamplifying peaks results in flattened p
I can't find any specs that reveal what its sound card's abilities are but the MIDI preferences include 16bit, 24bit, and 32bit float. (I assume it is capable of these settings or they wouldn't be present or they'd be greyed out.) 32-bit float is unheard of for sound cards. It may deliver the audio...
