Re: Anyone know how to check file size BEFORE exporting?
Forgot to say: With "constant bit rate" (CBR) encoded MP3. the bit rate is "per second", so the number of channels (mono / stereo) is irrelevant in terms of file size. However, stereo audio is more 'complex' than mono. so, for example 64 kbps mono will usually sound higher qualit...

Re: Anyone know how to check file size BEFORE exporting?
The size of an audio file depends on the number of "bits" per second, and the length of the audio: Note that the number of bits per second is usually quoted as kbps . Note also that the file also has "header" information and may have metadata, which will make the file a little bi...

Re: how to add silence before beginning of a track
First I tried importing both files and using the Time Shift tool to move the music forward a few secs. I couldn't get it to work. I always got the sign with the slash through it when I tried to move it. Playback needs to be stopped. I'm guessing that playback was just paused. Try clicking the Stop ...

Re: Audacity complains about jackd and not starting
Audacity installation (2.0.6) That is quite an old version. How did you obtain / install it? Which version of Mint Debian do you have? I think that "Jack" is a red herring. The line in the log that says "jack server is not running or cannot be started" is not an error, it is jus...

Re: Horizontal scroll.
Try the dot and comma keys (the keys with the "<" and ">" characters). On their own they do a "short jump" left / right (default 1 s at a time). With the shift key held down they do a "long jump" left / right (default 15 s at a time). The length of the jumps i...

You could use the "Envelope tool" (see: http://manual.audacityteam.org/man/envelope_tool.html)
