Thank you for your suggestion. The developers are aware of this. As yet there has been no announcement from the development team, but my conjecture is that LAME will be included in the not too distant future, but not in time for the next release.

The only reasons that I can think of for "Exported Selected Audio" being greyed out are, either Audacity is in "pause" mode, or there is no selected audio.
