Re: MP3 Variable Bit Rate

If I export an MP3 file at variable Bit Rate, Quality 7, and Joint Stereo, I get a Bit Rate that is much lower than if I do the same, but Quality 8. Shouldn't Quality 8 have a lower Bit Rate than Quality 7? For me, all else being the same, Quality 8 gives slightly lower bit-rate than Quality 7 (as ...

Re: Audacity can't see data folder

Now in C:\Masters select Premaster.AUP and Premaster_data in Explorer. Copy. Paste into C:\Masters. I presume that you then have something like: C:\Masters\Premaster.AUP C:\Masters\Premaster_data C:\Masters\Premaster (copy).AUP C:\Masters\Premaster_data (copy) where the "(copy)" version i...

Re: Audacity can't see data folder

Copy your project from its special starting folder into your master projects folder, then select and copy and paste that AUP file and _data folder in the master folder using Explorer. You have exactly the same problem Please say that again with example file paths. The way that reads sounds just lik...

Re: How to Split a Long Recording and remove the Silences of

I'm instead going to FIRST export each split into an individual file THEN use Chains to remove the silences from all the 2000 recordings. That's exactly what I was going to suggest, but as waxcylinder noted, 2000 files is probably too ambitious. Test the chain on one or two files first to check tha...

"Save Project As" is certainly important, so good to promote as a way of working. It's arguably the only safe way to rename a project.

Re: Muffled/low recording for a NEWBIE

Although the "Excelvan BM-800 Condenser" is often advertised as a "studio condenser microphone", it isn't. Even at wholesale prices from China, the cost of just the diaphragm of a real studio condenser microphone has a starting price that is double the price of this microphone. T...

I mean that I thought it was perfectly OK to do what I described, but you appear to be saying that it's not OK.

I can see that it's not OK to do what I described during and open and active editing session, but that would be rather a daft thing to do wouldn't it?

Re: How to Split a Long Recording and remove the Silences of

It is often helpful in finding a solution, if you describe what the job is.
What is this 10 hour recording?
On what basis are you (manually) selecting 2000 split points?
Why do you need to do this?

Re: Audacity can't see data folder

You should never copy the AUP file and _data folder into the same folder. This will destroy your project after you open the copy a couple of times. Whoa! How can that happen? If this is true we need to update the Audacity project page in the manual to warn about this. Perhaps we misunderstand what ...
