Re: Another suggestion regarding dither...

surely it would default to the prefs setting for dither - but in the Export dialog the user could the temporarily over-ride it for that export, and only that export. I'd support that, but this is where we run into problems about different use cases wanting different things. As soon as we add a &quo...

Re: Audacity 3.0.0 Debian Install

As a relative newbie I am uncomfortable compiling the new version from source. Does anyone know where I can get a *.deb install file? There will probably be a PPA build soon in "Panda Jim"s repository. However, for a "relative newbie" I would highly recommend that you stick with...

Re: Export Obstacle

Please lift or demolish the 4GB wav file export ceiling It is not an Audacity imposed limit. It is a limitation of the WAV (and AIFF) format. From Wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WAV#Limitations The WAV format is limited to files that are less than 4 GiB, because of its use of a 32-bit uns...

Re: time shift a clips

Track 3 (Tenor Sax) appears to be just one continuous audio clip. If you want to move only part of the track, you need to "Split" the track. (see: https://manual.audacityteam.org/man/audacity_tracks_and_clips.html) Track 8 (dimens) appears to be two audio clips with a split at around 7:00....

Re: Another suggestion regarding dither...

Automating when to apply / not apply dither has been a much discuss, and difficult to resolve issue. The core of the problem is that Audacity always uses 32-bit float internally, so any export to 16 or 24 bit involves reducing the bits per sample from Audacity's internal representation of sample val...

Do you have a small AUP project that you could share with us that demonstrates the problem?

Re: A new forum for Audacity 3 feedback and reviews

we shouldn't ever forget backwards compatibility Sure. Audacity has retained pretty good backward compatibility for nearly a decade, but there comes a point when the cost of maintaining backward compatibility outweighs the benefits. Old versions of Audacity are still available (free) for anyone tha...

Re: recording drums

...ok, I think I get the mixer as a 'stereo interface'..... Right. I found the user manual for your mixer online and it doesn't say but multi-track capability is unusual from these "little mixers". If the USB interface supports multi-channel recording, the manufacturer will invariably sta...
