Re: Improving the quality of wav files from cassette

I'm not sure what you mean by "meaningful way". Clipping is the distortion that occurs when peaks in the waveform go too high (or too low) and are "clipped" off. The lost peaks cannot be recovered (the "Clip Fix" effect can attempt to replace the clipped peaks by synthe...

Re: Improving the quality of wav files from cassette

Audibly there is very little difference between 16-bit and 32-bit float. You can think of it as 16-bit format being "very nearly perfect" and 32-bit format being "very very nearly perfect". The main benefits of 32-bit float are mostly relevant when processing audio (applying effe...

Re: Audacity could not find a place to store temporary files

Solved this by using the 2.1.3 zip download. I just set up a temporary folder and unzipped all files to there. It ran perfectly. Then I was able to run the 2.1.3 .exe download, which worked this time and installed 2.1.3 to the original program folder. I'm now enjoying the new options on the Transpo...

Re: Playback delay

My guess is that a "security product" (possibly an anti-virus program) is scanning the audio data before allowing Audacity to play it. That would explain why the problem occurs once on the "first pass", but then not on repeated plays. What security products are running on your co...

Re: Old Nyquist Prompt I was given no longer working

One of the most common telltale signs for version 4 effects is the use of *track*. In version 3 and earlier, audio was passed to Nyquist in the variable "S" (or "s", Nyquist is case insensitive). In version 4, this variable was changed to a more descriptive name *TRACK*.

Is that a release version, debug version, alpha version, DA version, some other "latest" version?
Look in "Help > About Audacity" for the actual version number. What does it say?

Re: Poor Sound Quality

You need to give us better information. What is RCO? What is RCS? What is "a RCO to USB cable ind"? "Sound very tiny," do you mean "tinny" (thin metallic sound) rather than "tiny" (small). My guess is that there is no phono pre-amp in the setup, so no RIAA equ...
