Re: Compile with ASIO support for Multi-track recording

Unless they are using sound cards with bad drivers, they probably don't 'need' ASIO with Audacity.
Audacity doesn't do "real-time", so low latency is irrelevant.
I'd suggest that you you suggest that they try using WASAPI (set it in the "host" section of the device toolbar).

Re: Keyboard hot keys are not vertically aligned in menus

The shortcuts are supposed to be right aligned like this: http://alphamanual.audacityteam.org/m/images/3/3c/ExtCommand-FocusMenu.png I've tested on Linux and Mac OS Sierra, and tried changing the locale setting (Linux), and they are all right aligned. Do you see this issue if you use an Aero theme?

Re: How to find loop points and loop audio?

If the music is rhythmic, aim to start and end the loop at the onset of a beat. " Timeline Quick-Play " is useful for finding loop points. Try out all of the options. When you are zoomed in too close to see both ends of a selection, the shortcuts "Ctrl + [" and "Ctrl + ]&quo...

Re: Audacity crashes with playback of these files

If you still get freezes, try the "hw" option. For example on my computer, the "hw" option is:
HDA Intel PCH: ALC268VC Analog (hw:0,0)

"(hw:0,0)" is usually the default (on-board) sound card.

Re: Is it possible to "Freeze" track at top?

No there isn't, but you can drag tracks up / down to a convenient position, and you can also "collapse" tracks so that you can fit more tracks on the screen. To drag tracks up / down, click on an empty part of the info panel on the left, and drag. To collapse / expand tracks, click on the ...

Re: Save user presets for effects when reinstalling Audacity

Audacity will usually retain your settings during an update of Audacity so long as you reinstall in the same location (usually best to just install to the default location) and install with the same Windows user account. I'd guess that you lost your settings on this occasion due to the (big) update ...

Re: Error while opening sound device.

Ensure that you have installed the correct drivers for the Tascam and your version of Windows. If you don't have the installation CD you may be able to get the drivers here: http://tascam.com/product/us-122l/downloads/ The manual is also available on that page. In Audacity there is not much to set u...

Try using the "hw" option as the playback device rather than "default" or "pulse".
