Re: "Relink missing media"

My personal recommendation is to put everything that belongs with a particular project into one folder, and save the project into that folder, and not mess around moving or renaming anything once it's used by the project. Yes it can use quite a lot of disk space, but better that than losing work. Ha...

Re: Sample Data Export/Import is “bit-perfect”/lossless?

Sample format conversion would be required upon export if you used the default 32-bit float sample format but exported a 16-bit audio file. That's true, but it is not the full picture. If you export a track to a different file format, then yes the file format has to be converted, but regardless of ...

Re: inserting audio in an track

If you have the sound tracks for both versions of the video, you can import them both into the same Audacity project, then use the "Envelope" feature to silence the parts that you don't want. http://manual.audacityteam.org/man/envelope_tool.html Start off by dragging the envelope down to s...

Re: To install Audacity from software manager or a PPA?

Generally it's best to go with the repository version of software unless you have a very good reason not to. If I recall correctly Mint 17 is based on Ubuntu 14.04, which has wxgtk 2.8 and 3.0.0 but not 3.0.2. The recommended version of wxgtk for current versions of Audacity is 3.0.2. I'd suggest th...

Re: Audacity recording problem since last W10 major upgrade

However I got something interesting for you : I tried to disable the built in speakers on my PC, leaving only the Tascam as input and output sound device : well, it seems to work fine, even with MME host!!! That's interesting. I wonder if there's a problem with the Realtek drivers that is interferi...

Re: Sample Data Export/Import is “bit-perfect”/lossless?

Audacity and Nyquist process in 32-bit float format regardless of the bit format. Converting from 24-bit integer to 32-bit float is lossless because 32-bit float can represent 24-bit audio exactly, which means that the round trip from "24-bit -> 32-bit float -> 24-bit" is lossless (bit per...

Re: Highlighting audio 'issue'

You've accidentally switched to the "MultiTool".
Press F1 or click the "I" cursor button to go back to the normal selection tool.

Re: Audacity recording problem since last W10 major upgrade

There's clearly a problem with the sound system on that machine. My first guess would be bad drivers, but we know that you are using the most recent drivers available. Perhaps we can work around the issue by using WASAPI for recording as well as playback. Try setting "host" to WASAPI, then...

Re: Sample Data Export/Import is “bit-perfect”/lossless?

With integer formats the whole thing becomes a lot more straightforward. Example - 24-bit (integer): The range of sample values is +/- 1.0 (* see below) There are 2^24 24-bit numbers (= 16777216 discrete values) "Normal" digital audio is PCM encoded, which divides the range +/- 1 into equa...

Re: Audacity recording problem since last W10 major upgrade

That's very weird, I didn't think that was possible  (It shouldn't be possible, but I'm guessing that it's been messed up by the upgrade to Windows 10) From the deviceinfo file: These are rge devices that Audacity is trying to use: Selected recording device: 6 - Entrée ligne (TASCAM US-200) S...
