Re: Can I Isolate Matching Audio Between 2 Clips?

It is not possible to isolate the common sound through phase cancellation, but the "Isolate" option in "Vocal Reduction and Isolation" may be able to do something useful. See: http://manual.audacityteam.org/man/voca ... ation.html

Re: Importing ALAC and AAC: Shooting yourself in the foot?

Thanks, got it.

One more thing if you could:
In a new Audacity project, import an ALAC file, then look in "Help > Diagnostics > Show Log".
Does it say:

Code: Select all

Opening with libav

Re: Importing ALAC and AAC: Shooting yourself in the foot?

There is absolutely no indication that certain file types (ALAC, AAC) under certain circumstances (macOS) do not fall under this rule when imported. That can be corrected. There is a highlighted paragraph that describes the issue as it relates to Ogg files (which I believe is the same on all platfo...

Re: Importing ALAC and AAC: Shooting yourself in the foot?

"… as designed"? This is utterly stupid design! As I have said myself many times. However, the 'best' behavior (for sound quality) is not quite as simple as you are suggesting. Audacity works internally in 32-bit format, so if any processing is applied, then the audio is processed ...

Re: Importing ALAC and AAC: Shooting yourself in the foot?

I agree this is confusing, but it is working "as designed". Audacity uses a number of different third party "importers" for importing audio. If Audacity is set to use 32-bit float by default and the importer supports 32-bit float, then you will get 32-bit float. If the importer s...

Re: Select one track

Audacity is 2.2.1 portable version. If you mean this: https://portableapps.com/apps/music_video/audacity_portable then you should really ask here: https://portableapps.com/forums/support/music-video (Portable Apps distribute a modified version of Audacity, and we have no idea what modifications the...

In the current (2.2.1) version of Audacity, to start recording onto a new track, hold the Shift key down when you click the Record button (or Shift + R).

Re: Question about Chris's compressor and fade in-out plug-i

Is this normal? Yes it's 'normal' for the end to be a bit unpredictable. The issue is that the effect changes the 'gain' (the 'level') of the audio not only based on the current level, but also based on the level of the audio that is coming up next: If there is a very loud bit coming up, then the e...

Re: Exporting a Song Extends It By 2 Seconds

I think you already know, or at least suspect the answer. It's a bug in both WMP and iTunes, that neither Apple or Microsoft can be bothered to fix. The solution is to use a good audio player such as Foobar 2000. If you really must use WMP, and seeing the correct time is of overriding importance, th...
