Re: Distortion when playing 4 tracks
I'm editing 4 tracks (uploaded WAV files) recorded from a Zoom Recorder, which sound fantastic until I play them back in Audacity - then I get distortion Do you mean that you are playing all 4 tracks simultaneously? (tracks imported one above the other?) If so, then you probably need to reduce the ...

Re: Donuts Theme
Nice to see some new themes appearing on the forum, but it would be better if you uploaded the files directly to the forum as attachments to your post. Attached files are visible to forum visitors without having to go off to another website, and they remain available even if the original "imgur...

Re: Setting directories and temp usage locations
It's recommended you do the work on the SSD and then shovel it to the other drive for storage. Though there is also the space / capacity consideration. Audacity projects can grow very large (several GB), and some SSDs are quite small. I'm guessing that helpful55 is concerned about the number of wri...

Re: Adding randomized silence (Windows 10, Audacity 2.1.3)
is it possible to generate sound signal as a rectangular impulse which has a specified duration and amplitude ? Yes. Using the Nyquist Prompt again, say you want the pulse to be 0.01 seconds duration, amplitude 0.5, occurring after 1 second, with 2 seconds silence following the pulse: (abs-env (con...

Re: Adding randomized silence (Windows 10, Audacity 2.1.3)
Is it possible in Audacity to create stereophonic sound signals Yes, but you have to create a stereo track first. Example: 1) "Tracks menu > Add New > Stereo Track" 2) Make an audio selection in the track 3) "Effect menu > Nyquist Prompt" (http://manual.audacityteam.org/man/nyqu...

Re: Setting directories and temp usage locations
Audacity's temp directory can be set in Preferences. See: http://manual.audacityteam.org/man/directories_preferences.html The temp directory is used by Audacity (only) when there is no project "_data" folder. When a project is saved, a "AUP" file is created, plus a "_data&qu...

Re: segmentation fault when run (on Mac running Ubuntu 16.04
I can't tell from the screenshots what the problem might be - it could be anything. Also, I've no experience running Linux on a Mac, and have no idea what gremlins may lie therein (but I'd guess there are lots). The first thing that I'd be checking out is the sound system. Audacity is like the canar...

Re: New Track Moving when "Punch recording"
When recording a second (or later) track, the new recording will be a little late compared to the first track, due to the time it takes for sound to work its way from the audio input, through the computer to the disk. Typically this delay will be around 100ms (0.1 seconds), though it can vary a lot ...

Re: Automatically add a label at the start of each track
Can we take a step back.... Why do you want a point label at the start (or end) of each audio clip?
