It may not be possible to change this behaviour because USB devices are installed dynamically by Windows.
You could try setting the USB device as the default recording and playback device in the Windows Sound Control Panel - that "may" do the trick.

Also, is this the first time you have used Audacity since upgrading to Windows 10?

This is a known issue, but it is harmless. Windows Application Event Log is complaining because Audacity provides both an explicit and a wildcard reference to the same object in the manifest. This issue is believed to be resolved in the soon to be released 2.2.2 version.

Unfortunately, updates to FFmpeg frequently break compatibility with earlier versions, which then requires substantial work from the Audacity developers to fix, and means that everyone updating Audacity will also have to reinstall FFmpeg.
