Re: Re-quantising 24-bit to 16-bit
o If I record at 24/44, normalise, and convert to 16-bit, is this process transparent or am I introducing losses compared to if I'd gone straight to 16-bit? If you "really" record in 24-bit, the process is better than recording straight to 16-bit. Note that to really record in 24-bit requ...

Re: Re-quantising 24-bit to 16-bit
. If the 24-bit master has a massive peak in it caused by a scratch on the record, won't this skew the normalisation process? Yes, very likely. Should I care if a blemish (ie not part of the music) goes into the red? Only so far as your vinyl has a scratch, but not that the scratch goes into the re...

Re: How to increase volume of portion of audio track?
You could try the "Envelope Tool" (http://manual.audacityteam.org/man/envelope_tool.html) but note that if the starting volume is too high, increasing the volume will cause distortion. Ensure that your track has sufficient "headroom" to allow the volume to be increased without di...

Re: Enabling sync-lock toolbar icon
Eventually we would like to make the toolbars much more customizable, but it'll be a while before that happens (don't hold your breath

Re: Enabling sync-lock toolbar icon
It was removed from the toolbar because too many users were getting stuck after enabling it accidentally.
If you use Sync Lock frequently, you can set a keyboard shortcut (sorry, no button).
To set keyboard shortcuts, see: http://manual.audacityteam.org/man/keyb ... ences.html

Re: Go to and display time (Audio Position box)
Does that mean you’ve taken away the functionality that previously allowed me to manually enter a time for it to go to? The “Audio Position” never had that functionality, it was the "Start time" control that did that, and still does, but it is no longer the first in the row. Is there not ...

Re: Latency correction now under Devices
Don't understand the logic of placing it there instead of the Recording tab, I agree that it was easier to find in the Recording section, but the logic of placing it in the Devices section is that the setting is specific to the selected device. If you switch to a different device, you will probably...

Re: Go to and display time (Audio Position box)
The time boxes have moved in Audacity 2.2.2, to accommodate additional features. The "Audio Position" box is now the first box (previously the last) and is for display only. The boxes for selecting time positions are the second and third boxes. They can now be configured: http://manual.aud...

Re: How to select between labels?
is it possible to define two separate labels and then somehow quickly select exactly all of the track between them? There is no keyboard shortcut for that. The way I do it (which is very quick and easy) is to tab to the first label, then hold down the Shift key and hover the mouse pointer over audi...
