Re: Audacity shutdown with export dialog.
Hi All, I found this issue was fixed (or disappeared) after I upgrade OS to 10.13.4, recently. I did not do anything with Audacity (just installed and tested new versions but always failed.). Re: stand alone recording

Re: Can't hear audio from other sources when Audacity is on?
To record a track while another is playing is called "overdub recording".
To start, you should download or record the backing track, then record a new track.

Re: Keyboard shortcut for jumping to a specific time?
is there a keyboard shortcut to access the Selection toolbar's start time drop-down menu? No, but you can set the selection start / cursor position by pressing the "[" key (while stopped), then enter the time. (use the "]" key for the end of the selection) For a full list of ava...

Re: Monstruous distortion of my voice
What settings are you using in the device toolbar ? Does the waveform have clear space above and below like the image below, or is it right up to the top/bottom of the track? http://manual.audacityteam.org/m/images/f/f9/mono_track_example.png A short audio sample would be useful. See here for how to...

Re: adjusting timeline
The amount of time shown on the Timeline depends on the "zoom" level.
Zoom in to show a smaller time range
Zoom out to show a larger time range.
