Re: Yosemite macbook help!
I assume that you have imported your backing track (?)
Next, you need to rewind ("<<" button),
then hold down the Shift key and click the Record button (or "Shift + R") to record to a new track.

Re: Building 2.3 on Windows
I'm probably not going to be much help with that as I don't have Windows 7.
Have you managed to build wx_vc15.sln without retargetting the solution?

Re: Building 2.3 on Windows
Try running the installer again and carefully read all of the onscreen instructions / options.
If that doesn't work, you may need to install Git for Windows first. Direct link: https://git-scm.com/download/win
(It's been a while since I installed Git)

Re: dropout detection
My question is: now what? How do I use this information? If you only occasionally get drop-outs, it may just be that your computer was busy (for example, doing a Window update), in which case you need to re-record that bit after the update has completed. Re: Audacity 2-3-0 slow GUI and high CPU (Windows 8.1)
I haven't done a full scan for a long time, but will do shortly. Do that first, and then, assuming the scan show that the system is clean, try white-listing Audacity 2.3.0, and white-list ".au" files (Audacity data files). Have tried on a couple of occasions to update the driver - my memo...

Re: Show File Path in Title Bar ?
The name of the "Project" is shown in the title bar. Audacity does not work directly on audio files, and a project may audio imported from multiple audio files, or none at all. (More information about the difference between audio files and projects here: https://manual.audacityteam.org/man...
