Re: Label Sounds not analyzing audio

I think it is critical for the default settings to produce at least fair results on the vast majority of recordings The defaults seem reasonable to me. They are based on the defaults for the old Sound / Silence Finder effects. Tracks000.png Tip: You can easily get back to the default settings at an...

Re: Opinion/advice on how to reduce hi-hat / hiss-static-distortion?

I'd just take off a bit from the extreme top end using the Graphic EQ.
It'll never be fantastic sound quality because of the limitations of the original, so I don't think it's worth being too picky.

Re: Label Sounds not analyzing audio

I found it VERY fussy, confusing, and unreliable. I agree that it is more complex, but it is a lot more flexible, more accurate, and very reliable (if it were not for the bug in Audacity). The addition of "RMS" and "Average" options for Threshold measurement are particularly use...

  1. open the run dialog with Windows logo + R
  2. enter: mmsys.cpl
  3. press the OK button
That will open the Windows Sound control panel.
Are your USB devices listed in the Recording and Playback tabs?
Does it show a signal level in the recording tab when you play a record?

Re: Label Sounds not analyzing audio

There is a bug in Audacity 3.0.0 that prevents Nyquist effects from working on long selections. "Label Sounds" is a Nyquist effect. For most Nyquist effects, "long selection" means about 45 minutes. This has been fixed in Audacity 3.0.1 which I'm hoping will be released around th...

Hi, here's a proposal for a solution to the problem in time controls, using a different approach.
That looks nice, and importantly everything is visible. How does it look in the context of the whole interface? (I'm imagining that it looks good).

it only goes away if I turn the main mix all the way down
Where are you doing that? On the mixer or in Audacity or in the Windows sound controls?

Re: Help in removing noise

Spoken word recordings are usual done without effects. Just aim to get as clear and natural sounding recording as possible. Once you have a recording that sounds clear and natural with low background noise, Noise Reduction may be used to reduce the background noise further (but the noise level shoul...

Re: Headphones

It will send playback to the system speakers, but that is not helpful for monitoring purposes. I'm guessing that you are more familiar with analog recording, and you want to monitor what is on the "tape" rather than monitoring what is going to the tape. In digital systems it's different. ...

they often asked me how to export multitrack sessions correctly.
Exporting for what? Do mean mixing down a multi-track project, or do you mean exporting separate tracks to import into a DAW, or something else?
