Re: Need advice about a bio-acoustics project using Audacity

There are pros and cons to each approach, but you need not use just one approach. Forking Audacity is, as you say, the most ambitious. It is the most flexible, and probably the most difficult. The code for Audacity is very complex, with around 600,000 lines of code (mostly C++). Even if you are a hi...

Re: Manual for Mac users

Audacity is mostly the same on Windows macOS and Linux. The main differences on macOS are: the menu bar is at the top of the screen on macOS and has an additional "Application" menu item macOS uses the Command key instead of the Ctrl key There's a fairly new addition to the on-line manual ...

Re: Hidden text

I know the "Spectogram" has to be activated, but I don't know what else to change to make the text appear. The spectrogram view is enabled from the track's drop down menu (click on the track name button https://manual.audacityteam.org/man/audio_track_dropdown_menu.html) but that's where I...

What is LAME, exactly?
It is what Audacity uses for encoding audio to MP3 format.
Unless you need to create MP3 files, it is not required.

If you do want to create MP3 files with Audacity, then it is required.
See: https://manual.audacityteam.org/man/faq ... .html#lame

Re: Recovering Data from Error Log

By default block files are written at a rate of about one every 6 seconds per audio channel while recording.

Thanks for the report.
I've updated the link on the website (it may take a while to appear due to page caches).

Re: recording what the computer is playing

Windows 10 requires different sound card drivers to Windows 7. It "may" be possible to fix the problem by upgrading the sound card drivers (see: https://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/Updating_Sound_Device_Drivers) but there is no guarantee that will work, and if you do it wrong it could stop ...

Re: Error Opening Project: Couldn't find the project data folder

You may be able to retrieve it if you can put everything back where is was. My guess would be that just moving "the Greats1.aup" back out from the "Willow Donato - the Greats_data" folder (so that it sits "beside" that folder rather than "in" that folder) may ...

Re: Error Opening Project: Couldn't find the project data folder

It looks like you have renamed "Willow Donato - the Greats.aup" file to "the Greats1.aup" and moved it into "Willow Donato - the Greats_data" folder? Is that what you did? See here about how to manage Audacity projects safely: https://manual.audacityteam.org/man/audacit...
