Do you or anyone have any clues as to what might be causing this? My first two guesses would be: * Windows update is running in the background * Anti-virus application is either updating or scanning. Either of these processes can shut out other applications, even if the CPU load / disk usage appear...

You may be trying to import a file that is not in a supported format, or a corrupt file.

I doubt that you (or anyone) will be very successful with this. I'd suggest that you look for a better sound - freesound.org has a lot of free sound effects.

Do you recall how you installed Audacity? In particular, whether you ran the "exe" installer or extracted the ZIP version?

Yes, Audacity can import BWF files, but it cannot read the extended metadata tags.

When audacity is exited it will not start again - Unless audacity.cfg which is located under %appdada% -> Roaming -> Audacity, is modified or deleted

In what way do you modify it to get Audacity working again?

Audacity 2.3.0 requires "Visual C++ Redistributable for Visual Studio 2015 " which may not be present on old Windows systems. You can get it from here: https://www.microsoft.com/en-ie/downloa ... x?id=48145

What was the problem? It is helpful for other Audacity users when solutions are published.
