It depends what you mean by "real time mixing". You can adjust track levels while playing the project (see: https://manual.audacityteam.org/man/mixer_board.html)

Perhaps you have inadvertently enabled "Sound Activated Recording" (it should normally be off /disabled)

Perhaps you inadvertently selected 24-bit FLAC. 24-bit FLAC files are much bigger than 16-bit FLAC.
