In that case, move focus to the bottom track, then "Move focus to previous track" (one track up).

If the second label track is the bottom (last) track in the project, add the command "Move Focus to Last Track" before adding the label.
The label is added to the label track that has focus ("focus" = "the current track", and it doesn't matter if it is selected or not).

I've just checked with Audacity 3.0.0 on macOS (Big Sur) and I get 4 mono tracks there as well.

I don't see that here (on Linux). I get 4 mono tracks.

Here's a Nyquist plug-in that emulates the old behaviour. This plug-in requires Audacity 3.0.0 . It may need to be modified for the next version of Audacity. Yes, it's a bug. I've fixed it for the next Audacity release which should be available soon.

There's a quick way to delete everything before zero: Ctrl + A, Shift + Home, Ctrl + T Ctrl + A , Select All Shift + Home , Select to beginning of project (for tracks the begin in negative time, the "beginning" is defined as time=0.0) Ctrl + T , trim to selection. That's cute :ugeek: 8-) ...

I then skipped the recovery and tried to open the file that was saved before the crash. This also froze. What format is the file? Where is the file stored on your computer? ("Cloud" storage, such as OneDrive / Google Drive and similar can cause problems for Audacity) Is it just that one f...
