I think the lack of response indicates that no-one else has this problem.
I don't see this problem on Ubuntu or Mint.

Perhaps you have a huge number of LADSPA / LV2 plug-ins installed and it is taking Audacity a while to scan the plug-in paths

Audacity can only record from one device at a time, so you can overdub like this:

1) Record the MPD first,
2) Then select the Presonus Audio Box as the recording device in the device toolbar
3) Then use "Shift + R" to record the Audio Box to a new track
