Re: Unwanted "squelching" on live recording
I can hear what you mean, and also observe a huge difference in the spectrogram view. Something is process the heck out the Audacity recording. Assuming that the recording from Audacity is just a straight recording and you have only recorded and then exported as WAV, then you need to look at what el...

due to the safety issues around inadvertent project loss By whom? We should balance the one loss by the vicar's wife in Smithfield-Stilton on Rye against constant awkward irritation for all other users. Have you ever had computer shutdown fail because all the other applications on the machine stopp...

Re: Flat line recording - used to work fine
because they are complicated mechanical devices with rubber belts & wheels that and other moving parts that deteriorate and wear-out. This is very true, and should be considered before spending money (I did mention this in my post), however, there are still a lot of good cassette players around...

Re: Failed to disconnect from DDE server
Are you using an official release build of Audacity, or a custom version?
The official release version is Audacity 2.3.0 and is available via the Audacity website: https://www.audacityteam.org/download/windows/
(Obviously we cannot guarantee the authenticity of Audacity obtained from other places).

Re: Failed to disconnect from DDE server
Unfortunately I'm not able to offer much help. The problem is occurring due to the "Dynamic Data Exchange Management Library" (DDEML), which is part of the Windows operating system (https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/desktop/dataxchg/about-the-ddeml). I've never seen this error myself.

Re: Flat line recording - used to work fine
In looking at the UCA202, I'm a little confused. I see the USB cord and I see some input ports, if that's what they're called. But where does a cassette fit into all this? As I wrote previously, the UCA 202 can be used to connect a cassette player to a computer. Of course that means that you would ...

Re: mod-script-pipe - Works fine and then file not found
You've not attached the code.
I'm not very familiar with names pipes on Windows either, but "pipeclient.py" should provide an easy way to use pipes on all platforms:

Re: Is there an easy way to join multiple audio tracks?
Basically you just need to find the .AUP file and open it with Audacity. That's the "project file". When you open the "project file", it tells Audacity to read all of the .AU files from the associated "_data" folder into the project. Note that it is vital that you keep ...

Re: Flat line recording - used to work fine
Can you or anyone recommend a good cassette player/mp3 converter? I use a "hi-fi" cassette player that I've had for many years, connected to the computer via a Behringer UCA202 (about $30). Both the sound quality and reliability have been miles better than any USB cassette player that I'v...

Re: Mixing Files-Starting Point
I thought I could just "drag" the 2nd file to the correct position under the the 1st one, If you have two tracks, one above the other, and both tracks have continuous audio, then you should be able to drag either track left / right using the Time Shift tool. but either I'm doing it wrong ...
