Re: Bizarre activity of the VU meter VS playback volume
so this problem has to be between Audacity and the sound card. I am beginning to think that the fact that no input is defined could be a flag to the answer. The fact that there is no input defined, does indicate that there's a problem with the sound system. Because Audacity has to work on many diff...

Re: Error 9997 at start up
This is actually on a desktop. I don't have a mic installed. very simple I am using two external speakers. I was actually using the software to cut an audio track out of one video to lay into another. I was able to do this prior to reinstalling window 10 after having hard drive problems. Now it doe...

Re: Broken, Glitchy Audio
I'm assuming there's no way to silence the interference? Sadly, no. The damage is far too severe. the difference this time is that I was using cellular data instead of WiFi, which I guess caused the interference... It should be fairly straightforward to test this theory. See if you can reproduce th...

Re: Macros crash in background
Go to the hidden folder " ~/Library/Application Support/audacity/Macros/ " (where "~/" means your home directory), and copy the Macro file that is crashing (it's a ".txt" file with the same name as the macro). Upload the Macro file with your reply (see: https://forum.au...

Re: Understanding sound levels
The external mic pre-amps are said to be better in the H2n than the H2. Certainly the external mic pre-amps in the original H2 are nothing to write home about, but I don't use my H2 with external mics. From tests that I've heard, there doesn't seem to be a great difference in microphone quality (int...

Re: Audacity vs Cubase
strictly from a sound quality aspect No difference. Provided that the program supports at least 24-bit 44100 Hz sample rate, the application will be able to faithfully reproduce the full audio range in terms of frequency range and dynamic range. Audacity supports up to 32-bit float, 1 MHz sample ra...

Re: Audacity vs Cubase
The biggest difference, and the only difference that matters for Linux users, is that Audacity can run on Linux, and Cubase can't.

Re: How can I use Audacity with a foot pedal?
You can "reduce" background noise with Audacity, provided that the background noise is not extreme. See these pages: https://manual.audacityteam.org/man/noise_reduction.html https://manual.audacityteam.org/man/alternative_noise_reduction_techniques.html There isn't any software that can el...

Re: Audacity as learning aid
I am looking at taking a sample in one language as an example and I want to allow students to see the trace for that output and then repeat the material being able to see the differences between their trace and that of the target example. You could do something similar to that with a bit of effort....

Re: Audacity 2.3.0-and the new Mojave beta
When the first Mojave betas came out, Audacity didn't run on them either. Fortunately they (mostly) fixed it before the full release of Mojave.
Have they announced a release date yet? Audacity 2.3.1 (64-bit for Mac) may be out by then.
