Re: Dansrue cassette->mp3 device error -9986 / crashing
"Error opening recording device. Error code -9986 PortAudio error." PortAudio is the software library that Audacity uses to communicate with the computer sound system. Error code "-9986" will occur if PortAudio cannot find the audio device. This would suggest that the device has...

Re: Macro Feature Requests..
a) you could control options under Audio Track. I built macro to make a spectogram track but have to manually select spectogram. Also enable spectogram settings. In a macro, you could 1) set Preferences to make Spectrogram view the default, 2) then copy the track, 3) add a new track (which will be ...

Re: Trying to remove a tone (called Code 33 tone) from police dispatch audio
You can eliminate the tone with a 700 Hz Notch filter (https://manual.audacityteam.org/man/notch_filter.html), but that won't deal with the "shhhh" noise or the massive click at the end. The "shhh" noise could be reduced using the Noise Reduction effect (https://manual.audacityte...

Re: Display Musical Bar and Bar lines
This is one of the most requested features. I have added your "vote". As we don't yet have this feature, I made a plug-in that provides "some" of the benefits. Although this plug-in is quite limited, you may find it useful: https://forum.audacityteam.org/viewtopic.php?p=155621#p1...

Re: Effects Chain Theory question
My room is not so quiet. Find a quieter room. There is no substitute for this - recording in a "not so quiet" room will seriously compromise the recording quality. My mouth is saliva prone. Take regular sips of water, and don't try to read too much at a time. Pauses can be easily edited o...

Re: Silent Subliminals [solved?]
In the purpose of protecting my ears, can I cut out everything that is above 22k and if so how do I do it? According to research papers that I have read, there is no evidence that ultrasound above 20 kHz causes hearing damage unless at extreme intensity (which requires specialist ultrasound equipme...

Re: Overwrite recording
You can do that with "Punch and Roll": https://manual.audacityteam.org/man/punch_and_roll_record.html Alternatively, if you don't want the "pre-roll" behaviour, you can just: 1) Click on the track where you want the recording to start 2) "Shift + K" (select to end of th...

Re: Increase the volume of a whispering voice
The correct solution to the problem, is to re-record the voice, and for the person whispering to be much closer to the microphone. Of course that will not be possible to do if you recorded someone without them knowing that they were being recorded, but that would be illegal in a lot of countries, so...
