Re: Isolate tone from recording
I've tried splitting the file into separate channels, then inverting one of them. when I merge them back together, the tracks completely cancel each other out, with no remaining tone. It would appear that the tones are not 180° out of phase. If they were, they should reinforce each other rather tha...

Re: 2 questions re. settings for narration
I'm hoping I'll understand it more as I continue experimenting. Experimenting is good. I've spent all my life experimenting and messing around with sound  I use the Zoom h4n for my interface. There are advantages to using the h4n in stand alone mode (providing you record as WAV): 1) No fan...

Re: Audacity Freezing on Playback
Try launching Audacity from a terminal window (type the word: audacity), and see if it gives any clues when it freezes (note that it is normal to see a load of "warnings" when Audacity launches, which are due to Audacity scanning the sound system to see what devices are available).

Re: 2.2.2 to 2.3.1 on Linux Mint 19
I have downloaded the manual (zip file) but have absolutely no idea how to incorporate it into Audacity. Instructions are here: https://manual.audacityteam.org/man/unzipping_the_manual.html but it's difficult to give "exact" instructions because it depends where Audacity is installed and ...
Re: Unclear
On Windows, Audacity 2.3.1 uses the same versions of LAME and FFmpeg as Audacity 2.3.0. If LAME and FFmpeg work with Audacity 2.3.0, then no need to update them.
(This is NOT the case for Mac users).

Re: 2.2.2 to 2.3.1 on Linux Mint 19
I'd recommend that you stick with Audacity 2.2.2 for now. Mint will update to 2.3.1 in due course. When you have a bit more experience and confidence with Linux, you may be interested in learning how to build applications from the source code - on Linux this is usually much easier than on other plat...

Vote here on the forum. I've added your vote to the wiki.
One thing I don't understand with your proposal; How does Audacity know if you are creating the envelope, or applying the gain?

Thank you for following up on this topic Fumio, but sadly you have missed Gale as he passed away in August 2017. There's a little "in memorandum" here: https://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/User:Galeandrews

Re: Cannot Save in format with any given options
Does this problem happen with all projects, or just some projects?
What is the exact and complete error message?
