Does the problem also occur if you record directly to a USB sick with the Peavey (without using a computer)?

I've checked the latest alpha version of Audacity (the development code) and the problem has been fixed, so you should see the fix in the next Audacity release.

Audacity does not yet fully support high dpi display settings.
If you set your Desktop default font size to a smaller size, then the text should fit correctly, but on a high dpi monitor this will make the text rather small.

I assume that is a USB device?
Ensure that the USB device is selected as the recording input in the device toolbar.

does Linux Mint even come with an antivirus scanner? Not in the default installation. The most widely used anti-virus for Linux is ClamAV, which is usually used as an "on demand" scanner rather than running in the background. How can I track down what could be causing these dropouts? You ...
