Simplescreenrecorder does not use that It does use PulseAudio (by default), but it doesn't require PulseAudio Volume Control. It seems that several GTK apps have problems, so my guess is that it's a bug in GTK_IM_MODULE=xim.

Normally, I just use the Tracks menu to mix the stereo tracks to mono. Just recently however, every time I do this the mono track is raised in pitch by about a semitone.
