Do you know which version of Ubuntu it is based on?

I wrote step by step instructions for building on Ubuntu 18.04 here: viewtopic.php?f=19&t=104224

To purge the list of plug-in, delete the files pluginregistry.cfg and pluginsettings.cfg
You will usually find these files in the hidden folder "C:\Users\<user name>\AppData\Roaming\audacity\"
(where "<user name>" is your log-in name).

Set the Zoom U22 to "direct monitor".

If you can't hear it, I don't think it matters.

If you enable "Advanced Vertical Zooming" (https://manual.audacityteam.org/man/view_menu_zoom.html) you can zoom in very much more.

Checkout the samples that 3alphasbulls posted. The audio in the right channel is clearly damaged. (Sounds to me like one of the capsules is faulty, though there are other possibilities.)

Please try a test recording in Windows "Voice Recorder" and let us know if the result is the same.
