Just to clarify: if I install the latest version of Audacity, can I go ahead and uninstall the separate LAME program?
If you wish to uninstall LAME, do that before installing Audacity 2.3.2.
When Audacity 2.3.2 is installed, it will install its own version of LAME.

Re: Opening Audacity "lags out" microphone until reboot

When I start X, two "/usr/bin/pulseaudio --daemonize-no" processes start Are you saying that you have two pulseaudio processes running? :? It shouldn't be possible to start pulseaudio twice. Attempting to start pulseaudio when it is already running should give an error similar to: [pulsea...

When I hit ^W
Does that mean "Shift + W" ? If so, that is not a default keyboard shortcut in Audacity, but "Ctrl + W" is the shortcut to close the current project.

I can't find any way to edit my post
No problem - it's best to just make a new post anyway, otherwise it can make the flow of the discussion hard to follow.

Re: Opening Audacity "lags out" microphone until reboot

One of the main jobs for PulseAudio is to support multiple clients. Consumer level soundcards these days don't have on-board mixing, so they can only support one client application at a time. PulseAudio acts as that "one client" application, and handles mixing and routing for multiple clie...

Re: Mixing Live Tracks - volume issue during transition from track to track

The "Replay Gain" effect is a kind of amplify / normalize effect, but it also does a clever bit of analysis to work out how "loud" the selected audio is, and then amplifies the selection to bring the level to a "standard" loudness. By applying the effect to each song se...

Re: Do I need LAME v3.99.3 (for windows)

The current version of Audacity is 2.3.2 and is available via the Audacity website: https://www.audacityteam.org/download/windows/

The current version of Audacity for Windows has LAME built in (no need to install it separately).

Re: No input from Plexgear Sondsaver Casette player

I can hear the sound in the built in speakers and adjust the volume on the casette player (at the knob on the back), no problem there. Excellent. Now connect the cassette player to the computer with your USB lead. Ensure that the lead is connected securely at both ends. Find the recording device in...
