Re: Gauge for volume up or down
The Default setting for all of those programs, or plug-ins is to level at 89dB. Perhaps I can offer some clarification about this. The 89dB reference level refers to "Sound Pressure Level" when the audio is played on a SMPTE RP 200 calibrated system. (See: https://wiki.hydrogenaud.io/inde...

Re: Gauge for volume up or down
First, I load the movie onto Xmedia Recode and set the Audio to peak at 91.0 db's. I think you must be misinterpreting the Xmedia Recode instruction, because that make no sense. If the audio signal peaks at +91 dB, it will be massively distorted. If that "91.0 db" (the correct abbreviatio...

Re: Gauge for volume up or down
if my audio track is 91db Your audio track is not 91 dB. The "track" shows the "signal level", and should always be less than 0 dB. A signal level of 0 dB is full track height, and is the absolute maximum possible signal level for integer format audio (such as an ordinary 16-bit...

Seems to be about 2000hz but low volume. The tone has multiple harmonics that are at multiples of 485 Hz, as can be seen by the horizontal lines in the track Spectrogram view First Track000.png The frequencies may be seen using " Plot Spectrum " Screenshot_2019-08-04_10-22-17.png This cod...

Re: How to "Fatten" a vocal track
I have a singer recorded on a track and would like to fatten their voice. In the "OLD" days of reel-to-reel, this was done by taking that one vocal track and duplicating it, placing it right on top of the the existing track (not physically of course!). This would give the vocalist a riche...

Re: How can I change the drive where Audacity temporary storages things (i.e. normalized tracks)
Once a project has been saved, Audacity uses the save "_data" folder rather than the temp folder. So, for example, if you want to use a Z:\ drive for temporary storage (just once, without affecting Audacity preferences), you can launch Audacity, then use "File menu > Save Project As&q...

Re: Opening Audacity changes volume/balance of soundcard: Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi 5.1 Pro
Is there any setting in audacity or my soundcard that could be triggering this? There's no setting in Audacity, because it is not Audacity that's changing levels. I've never seen sound card settings related to this - it just seems to be something that some sound cards (notably Sound Blaster cards) ...

Re: How to save over an existing file by adding -old1 at the end
I'm not sure how the normal option is considered safer if it overwrites without making a backup copy... Normal "copy in" importing is safer for Audacity projects. With the "faster" type of import, the audio data is not copied into the project, so the integrity of the project rel...
