Re: Question about key modulation with the "Change pitch" tool
The number refers to the octave, for example C4 is "middle C" (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/C_(musical_note)#Middle_C) Going from C3 to C4 is an increase of one octave (higher), equivalent to 12 semitones. Similarly, C2 to C3 is one octave, as is C4 to C5. In standard notation, octaves ar...

Re: Microphone picking up neighbor's AC
Could this maybe be solved by putting the mic in a box of some kind? Probably not. It can be filtered out quite effectively, but better if we can find a way to prevent the interference getting into the recording. I've noticed that whenever my upstairs neighbor's AC kicks AC = Air Conditioning? Just...

If you are recording on a laptop computer, try running it on batteries (disconnected from the mains) and see if that eliminates the hum problem when recording.

Re: Converting from FLAC to WAV results in a different WAV file each time
Audacity is not primarily a format converter, it's an application for recording, editing and processing audio. Audacity's default settings are set appropriately for recording, editing and processing audio. Audacity can be used as a flac -> wav converter, but for bit perfect results you need to chang...

Re: wxWidgets debugging check failed on opening Audacity
This is a known issue that affects a small number of users. Unfortunately, none of the Audacity developers or testers have been able to reproduce the problem. The message arises from wxWidgets, which is a software library that Audacity uses, and is probably due to a minor bug in that library. The is...

Re: Comparing two supposedly identical tracks.
if the result is silence and the new peak amplitude is infinity, No. If the new peak amplitude is "negative infinity"... The amplitude of signals are measured relative to "full scale" (full track height), where full scale = 0 dB. Thus as signals get smaller, their dB level is in...

Re: Record & Playback volume move together
I suspect the reason for no replies, is because no-one knows how to make the record and playback volume sliders move together. I presume that you are referring to the playback and record sliders in Audacity's "Mixer Toolbar" https://manual.audacityteam.org/man/mixer_toolbar.html How are yo...

Re: MS RAW Decoder
This audacity plug-in has a MS decoder option ... https ://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/Nyquist_Effect_Plug-ins#Channel_Mixer That plug-in is very easy to use. It's a "Nyquist plug-in" and installation instructions are here: https://manual.audacityteam.org/man/installing_effect_generator_an...
