Re: Microphone picking up neighbor's AC

mains humming.wav There appears to be a slight difference there, but not really better or worse. The 60 Hz hum is a fraction louder and the 120 Hz hum is a fraction quieter. One thing that is puzzling me is that mains hum is usually at a very precise frequency, either 50 Hz or 60 Hz depending on co...

There is now an extra zoom button (Zoom Toggle), so you're probably pressing the wrong buttons (it's still catching me out on occasion).

should we wait until I have a sample with the laptop plugged in?
Yes.
Try to ensure that your settings are identical in a plugged in / not plugged in pair of audio samples so that we can do a meaningful comparison.

Re: Microphone picking up neighbor's AC

I presume that you can still hear the hum in that?

I suggest that you try a test recording with the computer plugged into mains power. I would expect it will either be worse, or make no difference, though there's a slim chance that it could reduce the hum.

Re: Microphone picking up neighbor's AC

blankets hum.wav This still shows big peaks at 59 and 120 Hz, so assuming that the microphone was well insulated (acoustically) from both the air and the floor (low frequency vibrations travel very easily through floor joists), it would appear that the interference is electrical. If you have doubts...

Re: Audacity files read as wav clip / bug?

Project #2 gives me this debug report, but I can't find the folder or the file listed for some reason. The "AppData" folder is hidden by Windows. Try manually typing the address "C:\Users\Jim Gourd\AppData\Local\Temp" into the address bar of the Windows File Browser. From there ...

Re: 2 second delay on first playback

Try testing with an older version of Audacity. I assume this issue is relatively new, but it could be due to changes in Windows rather than changes in Audacity.

Re: 2 second delay on first playback

I don't see the problem on Linux, so perhaps it's specific to Windows.
Does the choice of "host" (in the Device Toolbar) make any difference?

Re: donate?

Glad to hear that you are enjoying using Audacity. Don't worry about the donation. There are other ways to contribute if you are interested (https://www.audacityteam.org/community/), or simply spread the word and recommend open source software.
