Re: Recording of a compressed Dolby Digital bitstream
I'm not talking about bit rate, only about "sample rate". AC-3 audio is carried on any type of digital audio transport (AES, SPDIF) at 48kHz. If the transport interface is 24-bit transparent, AC-3 will pass without any problem. As an engineer myself, I understand very well what you are talking about...

Re: Recording of a compressed Dolby Digital bitstream
But Audacity doesn't know if I am feeding compressed audio or not... You said that if the project sample rate equals the soundcard sample rate, then SRC is disabled. In this case, the recorded audio should be exactly the input audio "as is". Am I right on that ? If so, I should be able to record any...

Re: Recording of a compressed Dolby Digital bitstream
It is more complicated than that. Most of the times, the AC-3 signals I need to grab are not available at home, and neither on Internet feeds. As a broadcast engineer, I go in the broadcaster's labs, install the products I designed, and help them to debug their setups. In these conditions, the signa...

Re: Recording of a compressed Dolby Digital bitstream
You got it. I need to capture the bitstream into a file (I tought I was explicit...). I have a converter box doing AES or SPDIF to USB which sends the audio to a PC. Audacity is great for recording PCM audio, but I would like to know if it can do that also.
