Re: Trouble Opening WAV file for Editing
Steve - You have been so nice and helpful, I really appreciate it. I am a well-educated guy, but I am not up on the specialized terminology of this stuff. I just quickly ran through the link you gave me, and, honestly, I can't see it. You obviously understood what I was talking about, when I clumsil...

Re: Trouble Opening WAV file for Editing
Thank you! Is there a way, when recording or listening, to have the current location of the music remain at the center of the screen, allowing the time to scroll by, rather than traveling left-to-right, then jumping back to the left? I have looked for this setting and can't find it. Thanks again, I ...

Re: Trouble Opening WAV file for Editing
I have a couple of SACDs and DSDs. Both sound excellent and I have not had any trouble playing them in odd machines, such as my car, but I may not be hearing more than the base level CD. What I am hoping for is to rip my vinyl to the best quality that is reasonably available and compatible with as m...

Re: Trouble Opening WAV file for Editing
Thanks for all the help.
Here is one cool thing

this has helped enormously, and verified that I was not too far off base after all.

Re: Trouble Opening WAV file for Editing
I thought I posted a reply but it does not seem to have made it here. I am glad to have helped, if slogging through this odd bug has helped the developers in some way. I am a serious music listener, but amateur LP and CD ripper. My primary use for Audacity is ripping my collection of vinyl, along wi...

Re: Trouble Opening WAV file for Editing
Here is the Registry entry. I can't tell whether the old stuff is still in there, it is hard for me to see a way to differentiate between 1.2.6 and 1.3.9 It would be nice to clean out everything that is obsolete. I have no problem resetting all my preferences from scratch each time I re-install, in ...

Re: Trouble Opening WAV file for Editing
Bill -
You say that you think the old 1.2.6 file is buried in there somewhere? Tell me how to find it, and I will send it to you.
I have looked around quite a bit and don't see it.
Where does XP keep its old backup copies of the Registry?
thanks

Re: Trouble Opening WAV file for Editing
Bill - I will try to find it. I opened the file in Notepad, and highlighted and deleted chunks of it, a chunk at a time, then did Save, so I doubt that there is a previous save. I am scrupulous about running a clean and mean machine, and I run cleanup utilities all the time, as well as manually dele...

Re: Trouble Opening WAV file for Editing
Bill - WAH - HOO ! It worked. I can finally edit an existing WAV file in Audacity! I did the uninstall/reinstall thing (no 1.2.6 any more) but I also cleaned out the config file. Boy, that is a huge file that builds up fast. That must have been where the problem was. I can hardly imagine how it has ...
