Re: Opening files

Unless you can get the CD that those .cda files came from, there is very little you can do. The audio data on a CD is stored as a continuous stream of bits, and the .cda files are just header files for each track that tell the CD player software where to start and stop playing in that stream. There ...

Re: Reverb

You need the VST version, in order for it to work with Audacity. - Use the VST version download link for Windows, in the wiki page that Bill linked to. Extract the .dll file from the .zip and put it in Audacity's Plug-Ins folder (C:Program FilesAudacityPlug-Ins). It will appear in the Effect menu, b...

Re: Opening files

cda is not a file format, but a bitstream used in CDs in order to get the maximum amount of music onto a disc. You can't convert directly from cda to wav or mp3. To get files that Audacity can open, you need to rip the CD tracks to WAV files using, for example, Windows Media Player or iTunes, or som...

Re: Recording Both sides of Audio Cassette

When adding the second side I want to have the waveform displayed as for the first side. How, exactly, do I do this? If you click Pause (not Stop) at the end of recording the first side, and click it again to start recording the second side, as Waxcylinder suggested, it will continue on, from the p...

Re: A text editor

If you Export your label track (File > Export Labels), Audacity creates a text file containing each label's text and its position on the timeline.

The rest of what you want can be done in your text editor.

Re: Only hear static after exporting to MP3

When you imported the file, did it play properly in Audacity? You need to extract the WAV file from the zip file, and import it as WAV. Then you can export as MP3. However, if you just want a file converter, Audacity may not be the best choice. SUPER http://www.erightsoft.com/SUPER.html is one free ...

Re: usb interface not working

Go to Edit > Preferences > Audio I/O and, under Recording > Device, select USB Audio CODEC.
You will only get this option if the USB device is plugged in when you start Audacity.

Re: does not find MP3 encoder

You need to tell Audacity where the Lame library is.

Click on Edit > Preferences, and in the Preferences window click "Libraries".
Click on MP3 Library > Locate, and browse to the folder the Lame library is in. Click OK to store the preference.

Re: flac in flac out?

Audacity version 1.3.9 (the current beta version, due for release as version 2.0 very soon) will allow you to export as FLAC. Version 1.2.6 will not.

You can have both version 1.2.6 and 1.3.9 on your computer but you can only have one running at any time.

Re: can't find file

It looks like Windows is hiding the files from you. If you export your MP3 file to a folder in "My Documents", instead of C:Program FilesAudacity can you find it there? In Windows Explorer, in the View tab of the Tools menu (on XP) there is an option to show hidden files and folders. Tick that box. ...
