Re: 4 Channel Analog Tape into Audacity
Does the deck have Pan controls as well as level controls for each track? Assuming it does, then you can try the following: (This assumes you are using 1.3.11) 1. Record tracks 1 & 2 of the tape in Audacity as a stereo pair, with track 1 panned completely to the left and track 2 panned completely to...

Re: new mixer bought trying to record
im a bit confused sorry, ive 1 phono lead which i use to connect the soundcard to the mixer, is another lead required to connect from the booth to the card? No, you should use the same lead, but you need to connect it to a different output on the mixer. As Steve said, you can use either the Booth o...

Re: new mixer bought trying to record
the soundcard should be into send/return in the mixer and connected to input/line in on the card? The send/return jacks on the mixer are intended for use with the effects channel, so I would use the Booth Output to connect to the sound card. Connect the Booth Output on the mixer to the Input on the...

Re: new mixer bought trying to record
Can you give us details (model numbers) of the mixer and sound card you are using, so we can help find where the problem might be? In the meantime, some possibilities; Are you sure you plugged in and powered up the sound card before starting Audacity? If you don't, then Audacity won't recognise it, ...

Re: importing and exporting audio track to and from Windows
Audacity version 1.3 will import the audio from video files (including WMV) if you have downloaded and installed the ffmpeg import/export library. version 1.2 will not. The current release is 1.3.11, which you can get from here http://audacityteam.org/download and the directions to download and inst...

Re: How to make gap between songs?
Audacity 1.3.10 has a bug which will cause problems when you try to create multiple tracks from a single recording.
You will need to upgrade to 1.3.11, which you can get from here:

Re: Ogg vorbis why mono?
How can I please downmix them five channels to 'standard stereo'? This method is a little convoluted, but I can't think of any other way to do it. 1. Open your Audacity project with your five mono tracks. 2. Create five new blank (mono) audio tracks (Tracks > Add New > Audio Track) 2. By clicking a...

Re: Ogg vorbis why mono?
The source may be 6-channel audio, but it is being brought into Audacity as 6 mono tracks, (on the track panel to the left of each track it says "Mono 48000Hz, 16-bit PCM), and because of that, the Export command mixes them to a mono file by default. What you can do is to select "Use custom mix" in ...

Re: 4 Channel Analog Tape into Audacity
Do I need a separate interface to get all 4 discrete tracks on Audacity? Yes, you will need a sound card with 4 inputs and a driver which presents all the inputs to Audacity as one device , i.e. one multi-channel driver. Many multi-channel cards treat the channels as stereo pairs, so, for example, ...
