Alternatively, you can upgrade to Audacity 1.3.11, which has a timed recording feature.
Tell it at what time you want it to start and finish recording, and go to bed.

Re: DJ Mix - Is this possible
The simple way: if it sounds right, it is right. Once the UCA202 is recognised by Windows and selected as the recording device in Audacity, you're OK. Or to put it another way, if you actually were recording music through a laptop microphone, the sound quality would be so bad that you couldn't liste...

Re: mic for low frequencies
Suppose the sensing beam overloads the system and overshoots the cell? Ah, now you're trying to be practical! I can see someone spending a lot of time adjusting the distances between the source and the photocells, and between the two photocells, to keep the signal in the straight-line part of the s...

Re: mic for low frequencies
Are we talking about a fluidic oscillator like the one in the top pictures here? http://aarls.eng.ohio-state.edu/PSP/fluidic.html Then how about this for a solution? Put a point light source on one side of the jet and two photocells (or, more likely, phototransistors) on the other side, so that the ...

Re: new mixer bought trying to record
A couple more things to try: Did you upgrade to Audacity 1.3.11. If not, you should. It may not solve the problem, but it might make it different. Are you sure the background noise is actually background from the room where you are recording? If you shout, sing or say someting specific during the re...

Re: Static in audacity 1.2.6
This is usually a sign of a bad USB connection, or it can happen if you are using a USB hub with other devices connected as well as the mic. Make sure the mic is plugged directly into a USB port on the computer, not through a hub. If it is already directly connected, try a different USB port, and ch...

Re: new mixer bought trying to record
I'm running out of ideas. The fact that you can select USB Audio Codec as the recording device means that Windows recognises it and should use it, and only it, to record from. On the other hand, the fact that you are hearing background noise points to sounds being picked up by the mic and recorded. ...

Re: DJ Mix - Is this possible
still only the microphone option You're talking about the dropdown box in Audacity's Mixer toolbar, right? The one with the microphone and speaker sliders beside it. In that case, it's OK. On my machine (running XP), when I connect a USB soundcard, the dropdown in the mixer toolbar is disabled and ...

Re: new mixer bought trying to record
Just so there is no doubt, you should now have: Booth output on the mixer connected to line / input on the sound card. Booth Level control on the mixer turned up. Sound card plugged in before starting Audacity. Audacity preferences: (If you are using 1.2.6; Edit > Preferences > Audio I/O Tab) (If yo...

Re: 4 Channel Analog Tape into Audacity
As an alternative, (depending on what panning options you have on the tape deck) you can replace steps 1 to 8 above with the following: 1. Record each of the tape tracks separately as a stereo track in Audacity (assuming it will be output from the tape deck as centre-panned stereo, i.e. identical Le...
