I get the same effect, running on Windows XP, but it is not related to Audacity or the specific plug-in. One option is to get a pair of powered external speakers, something like these:

They will cost anything from about €10/$10 upwards.

You can leave the computer's volume level turned up and control the volume on the speakers themselves.

Click on Edit > Preferences > Import/Export and uncheck the box that says "Show Metadata editor prior to export step".
