Re: Some help reducing hum from turntable for recording?

Koz I think you're right about the power leaking out because the orange strobe light doesn't work like it's supposed to, either. In order to see the marks on the platter with the light it has to be at night with the lights out and it's still faint. The slightest adjustment to the speed adjust and it...

Re: Some help reducing hum from turntable for recording?

Thanks for the reply Koz. No there's no antenna on the roof and yes my apt. building seems to have good (enough) wiring with 3 prong outlets. I located the source of the hum yesterday: my beloved Technics SL-D303 turntable that I bought brand new in 1982 (or maybe the cartridge or the headshell wire...

Some help reducing hum from turntable for recording?

Hello all I've been trying to convert LPs to CDs and Audacity's helped a lot but I'm getting some hum from my turntable/receiver set up. It's a Technics SL-D303 direct drive TT from 1982 with Shure V15 Type IV cartridge hooked up to an Onkyo TX-904 Tuner-Amplifier (receiver) from 1992 with Phono inp...

Re: Noob questions: Audacity vs. Finyl Vinyl; Normalizing/EQ

Sounds perfect. Do you have one in your garage you want to trade for an iMic?

Re: Noob questions: Audacity vs. Finyl Vinyl; Normalizing/EQ

Behringer, Edirol good. iMic no good. Those are the things I'm liking to know. Does the Behringer have the phono preamp that I need with my Technics TT? One of the reviews I read on it said it didn't so I need to make sure. Also what about all those phono preamps that are on eBay for $12.95 and up? ...

Re: Noob questions: Audacity vs. Finyl Vinyl; Normalizing/EQ

Koz, I'm using my Technics SL-D303 Turntable and Shure V15 Type IV cartridge (bought new in '82) with a new replacement stylus 45HE. The TT is plugged into a Griffin iMic using the Griffin Turntable Grounding Cable. The iMic is plugged into USB on either my PowerMac G4 Dual 1.25 or iBook G4 1.42, bo...

Noob questions: Audacity vs. Finyl Vinyl; Normalizing/EQ etc

Hello I'm pretty new to capturing my vinyl LP's onto the mac for burning. I've played around a little with Finyl Vinyl and Audacity and was wondering what do y'all think of those 2 apps? I know Audacity has lots of settings, filters, etc but does either one produce a better "basic" recording than th...
