Re: Dynamic Rumble Filter
Here is a sample of groove noise after the pops and crackle have been reduced.( I used Wave Corrector) I was thinking it might be easier to just use Dominic Mazzoni's Noise Removal, and take a noise profile from the groove noise? ( Perhaps after also applying a LP filter to the groove noise sample.)...

Re: Dynamic Rumble Filter
I've come round to your idea jtp_60 My latest code uses an envelope follower to control the cut-off frequency of a high pass filter. The envelope follower uses RMS values takes over 100 samples, which stops the filter from jittering on crackles. Including a fixed sub-sonic filter takes care of any ...

P.S. It might be an advantage to change " gate frequencies above 20 " to say
5HZ to remove subsonic turntable frequencies.

Re: Dynamic Rumble Filter
That's right, it was a variable or switching high pass filter.I don't think the poster is looking for Cut To Silence during the quiet passages, I think they want a high pass filter switching in and out depending on the show volume.

Dynamic Rumble Filter
About 35 years I came across an audio amplifier that had a dynamic rumble filter that reduced turntable rumble on quiet passages, but was turned off when there were load passages. It was actually quite effective.
Could such a filter be implemented with Audacity or with a VST plug-in?
