Re: Saving Projects nows means beachball of death for me
What happened to the good old days when we told people to trash the cfg file and start over? I'm betting if mom's in a lot of trouble and need this puppy running right now, the last thing she wants is instructions to manually edit the computer's program. Not Fuzzy-Warm... Koz Trashing audacity.cfg ...

Re: Saving Projects nows means beachball of death for me
I d/l'd 1.3.9, twice, and the app wouldn't open. There's a trick to get 1.3.9 to ignore all your old 1.2 preferences and start clean. This might be worth trying. Go to <your home>/Library/Application Support/audacity In there you'll find a file called "audacity.cfg". Open that file in TextEdit. Rem...

Re: Saving Projects nows means beachball of death for me
Is this a new problem, or has it been happening since you started using Audacity? The short answer is to upgrade to Audacity 1.3.9. The longer answer is to get more details about your machines - including RAM, HD size, how full the HD is, the content of the projects that are causing the freeze, and ...

Re: Sound has disappeared from .au files
One more clue that I realized was weird: usually, the .au files would have file created timestamps throughout the recording session. However, all of the files in the _data directory have their file created time within 2 minutes of each other (all say created at either 8:25 p.m. or 8:26 p.m.). Since...

Re: Sound has disappeared from .au files
Are the files totally silent? Try this. Select a portion of the track and do Effect > Amplify. If the default parameters are Amplification (dB) "0" and New Peak Amplitude "-infinity" then the file truly is silent. If Amplify offers Amplification (dB) "50", try it an see what you get. Audacity is sma...

Re: Extending play time?
Did the recording of the doorbell end before the sound of the doorbell completely died out, or is the doorbell sound just too short? Try Effect > Change Tempo with a negative value - this will make the sound longer without affecting the pitch. If the recording was cut off, you could, after changing ...

Re: Sound has disappeared from .au files
The other odd thing about the .au files is that they are each only 528K in size--usually I see the .au files as being 1 MB each. That's the best clue I can find, but I'm still not sure where it leads us. I can create 528K AU files by resampling a track from 44100 to 22050. But I still get audio (al...

Re: Bulk Normalize
You've selected "Compressor". Try "Compress Dynamics" lower down in the menu (below the dividing line).trahcwolf wrote:The graph that shows up looks fancy enough, but I have no clue how to correctly use it.

Re: Bulk Normalize
Well, the newer version is quite nice. But it won't help you install plug-ins.
In the same directory (folder) as Audacity is in, there should be a folder named "plug-ins". Just put the "compress.ny" file into that folder.

Koz: If you do decide to try Audio Hijack I'd be interested in your experience. It's one of my top fave audio programs for Mac. Very versatile. Also check out their freebies: http://www.rogueamoeba.com/freebies/ Soundsource puts a menu on the upper right where you can change sound sources and adjust...
