I've just recorded a song using Audacity, and I'm getting a lot of white noise with the recording. How do I get rid of it and still keep the song?

I am trying to input audio files that were recorded on my computer's microphone. The drop arrow on the mixer toolbar will not let me choose "microphone". What is going on and how do I fix this?
