Re: Amplify settings (2) are always locked together
IOW, when I see a track that I can tell is going to be really "loud", I could set Amplify for -3dB instead of my normal -2dB setting. I know this is very amateurish, but I am just looking for background music while working around the house. ANy thoughts? Generally speaking, I think you will be disa...

Re: Amplify settings (2) are always locked together
<<<I don't like compression, but I DO want "equal" volume. What do I do? That was a rhetorical question. I know what I have to do. Since nobody can perform live and create the bottom waveform directly, we can conclude the performance has already been compressed -- it looks like it's been through a ...

Re: Amplify settings (2) are always locked together
Here are 2 waveforms from my collection: Top is a 1930s Hawaiian instrumental. Bottom is a 1980s pop/country recording. Both have the same "amplify" value, which is -2 in the bottom box (peak amplitude). I recently made a CD containing both songs as an experiment. Bottom is a LOT louder than top. I ...

Re: tag format
My stuff is organized like a record store since I am highly accustomed to that breakdown. I have 10 major categories of music. Each of the 10 has individual artist names. I have no "albums". Everything is just individual single songs. If I have at least 4 songs by someone, I make a folder for the ar...

I fooled around with it a bit, and it seems that I can only successfully click 1 sec. or more away from the last long thin vertical cursor line. I cannot make another vertical cursor line in the wave form within + or - 1 sec. of the existing cursor line. Can you? Richard Yes. Each mouse click in a ...

Re: Amplify settings (2) are always locked together
When I change one of the two Amplify settings the other changes as well, and they are always equal. Is this normal? And, the OK button grays out if I choose a positive dB amount of amplification. What is this all about please? If I want Amplify to amplify as much as possible without clipping, why d...

Re: Making a music download
Normally, you would upload those songs to some location on the Internet and then provide a link to that site.
I don't see the connection to Audacity.

I can't duplicate what you are talking about.
At any zoom level, I always get the thin vertical cursor in the waveform wherever I poke with the mouse.

Look here for a pseudo-technical explanation. I'm sure you can google a master's thesis worth of stuff. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joint_stereo Lots of detail in this thread: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=960826&page=15 For the layman it means this: joint stereo encodes a lot qui...

Re: Work Flow for reel-to-reel recordings of LPs Please comm
If I use the LP recommended roll-off at 24 dB and the cutoff at 25Hz, what do I set the q for? Should I be able to click anywhere in the wave form and start my selection from there? I find that when zoomed in I am not able to click just anywhere. I have to try several different points before it wil...
