Re: Two different mono channels in 1 track
Thanks for the fine points. I have saved all of that to a Word file for later study. I may actually run some tests of my own. My default mp3 export choice for music files is VBR, quality 2, joint stereo--regardless of whether the 2 channels are "stereo" or identical or whatever. In reality, they are...

Re: Two different mono channels in 1 track
Export the mono file as a WAV file and there's no damage there, either. I assume you mean ONLY if the mono file is a WAV or other lossless format? If so, I will continue my present policy---being nervous about it. My files are mp3. I gather there is no way, with Audacity or any other app, to open a...

Re: Two different mono channels in 1 track
The sound from a single channel mono track will be identical to a 2 channel mono track (and will play through both speakers)....................and if exported as an MP3 file it will be higher quality if exported at the same bit rate than the 2 channel version. Steve: I have read that playback of s...

Re: Two different mono channels in 1 track
I did some experimenting and this seems to work. There may be a more elegant method. Split stereo track from the black arrow/triangle Put cursor in top channel Edit, move cursor to track start (cursor is now at beginning of top channel) Edit, select cursor to track end (top channel is now highlighte...

Re: Youtube: record what you hear or extract audio after sav
Steve and WC: Do either of you have a recommendation for a Youtube download application that is working currently with Firefox 3.6.8, is free of spyware, and has a history of being pretty stable and usable over time? I was using "Youtube Downloader HD", which had worked pretty well for at least 6 mo...

Re: Youtube: record what you hear or extract audio after sav
Steve: Thanks for the comments. Method 2 is certainly slower in my case as I have to take time to download the video and then in a separate step pull the audio from it. I could more easily have captured the audio only simply by playing the video through without downloading it. I've discovered anothe...

Youtube: record what you hear or extract audio after saving?
I know very little about the audio portion of video files as might be found on Youtube. At times, I would like to capture the audio portion of such a file to an audio-only WAV or mp3. Imagine these 2 scenarios: 1: I go to Youtube and locate a video. I open Audacity and start recording. While in reco...

Re: No 'Export as MP3' button in Audacity 1.3.12-beta (Unico
Firehead: I can't recall earlier versions of Audacity and exactly what the choices were. On 1.3.12, I always have a "save as type" dropdown and I can always choose mp3 from that list. I then just poke the "save" button next to the dropdown. I cannot recall a specific "export as MP3" button, but I ma...

Re: No 'Export as MP3' button in Audacity 1.3.12-beta (Unico
I am using Windows 7 and Audacity 1.3.12. I occasionally have a very similar problem. Usually (over 90% of the time), Audacity will export a file name such as "John - Test" as "John - Test.mp3", but at times I get an error saying that these types of files usually have an mp3 extension and asking me ...

Re: Amplify settings (2) are always locked together
Rorser: Here is another application to consider. I haven't tried it, but I have heard good reports. It is called Volume Balancer. It's $15, with a free trial. http://www.delback.co.uk/volbal/index.shtml Volume Balancer is a shareware utility which adjusts the peak and average levels of WAV files so ...
