Re: Stereo to 2 mono WAV files?
How about this: 1; Open stereo file 2; Split stereo track to mono using inverted triangle menu on left border of Audacity window, just below where the seconds are displayed (0, 15, 30, etc) Be sure to choose stereo to mono here; if you don't, the exported file will have 2 channels, one of them empty...

Re: tag format
My file naming format is like this: Elvis Presley - I'm Left, You're Right, She's Gone.mp3. When files named like that are dropped into a computer folder, they are going to be sorted by the first characters encountered. In a folder, you would see Elvis before Frank Sinatra and you would see Frank Si...

Richard: I noticed your response to my post in your other thread. I had originally made a long reply in this thread before I made that post, but I deleted it without ever posting it. Why delete it? Because some of Audacity is personal preference and what a person is accustomed to. There is more than...

Re: adjusting Windows vol. independently from Audacity
And, I sure would appreciate knowing whether or not using Noise Removal makes sense for me. THese are reel-to-reel tapes of LP phonograph records. There are two types of noise: the tape deck hum and the turn table. I tried noise removal with the defaults and did not like the results. I read the Aud...

Re: Recording from phono windows 7
If you record one side of an LP, you would normally end up with one recording containing all 5 or 6 songs on that side of the LP. You can split them into separate songs easily after the recording is finished. I think you can mark the gaps between songs as the recording is made if you are listening. ...

Pat: For $30, you can get this gizmo: http://www.amazon.com/Behringer-UFO202-U-Phono-High-Quality-Interface/dp/B002GHBYZ0 It's the Behringer UFO-202 USB sound card, with built in phono pre-amp. Assuming your PC has a free USB port, you can plug this thing into the port and then connect your turntabl...

Re: Split track into two, then mono. NOT WORKING!!
I've never attempted to get rid of a vocal, but if your original recording is a single track and the vocal is part of that track, I don't see how you can get rid of it. Maybe reduce it, but not get rid of it. Regardless of your splitting. There is nothing special about a vocal. It's just a noise wit...

Re: Click Removal Tool
Pat: I don't know what your intentions are or what your playback/listening circumstances are, but I've decided in the last few years that my primary music playback method will be from a PC hard drive---not CDs. In the last 6 or 8 years, I have burned perhaps 60 CDs containing some of my very favorit...

You might find something useful at the link below: http://tinyurl.com/23rkyt8 The link is the Google search results for "Realtek" and "stereo mix" at this web site: http://www.vistax64.com. I now use Windows 7 but formerly used Vista and fought the driver wars on Vista. You may be able to find a wor...

Re: Improving old, muddy tapes to digital
You can do a decent job on cleaning the heads on the tape recorder with Q-Tips and isopropyl alcohol. Give them a good scrubbing. The recorder should have 2 or 3 heads. Use the alcohol to clean anything the tape comes in contact with as it moves between reels. If the source material is purely spoken...
