Re: Lost drop down menu options

Hi Steve,
No, I haven't. But I put a hard drive in as a slave to look at what was on it, and it somehow screwed up some of my mp3s, and caused other problems, so it may have done some damage to Audacity. I uninstalled and reinstalled Audacity, but it didn't make any difference.

Lost drop down menu options

Hi,
I'm using 1.3.5, and for some reason I have lost most of my drop down menu otions. The only one left is 'microphone'. I used to have 'line in', 'stereo mix', 'auxillary', 'phone line', etc. Can anyone straighten me out here?
Thanks,

Re: trouble getting right recording volume with 1.3.5

Another discovery.
The intenisity (amplitude?) of the waveform is affected by both the input and output sliders.
Is this normal?

Re: trouble getting right recording volume with 1.3.5

Hi,
Yes...... I've fiddled with all these settings but I still get a funny result. It's as if the signal getting to Audacity is overloading the program. The the input slider is already very low, at 0.1 already.

Re: trouble getting right recording volume with 1.3.5

Hi,
I don't want to go the external sound card route. And, maybe I misunderstood you, but I had the impression that you didnt think I would be able to make adjustment on my pc that would solve the problem??

Re: trouble getting right recording volume with 1.3.5

Thanks WC, Perhaps I should explain why I'm recording in this manner. I used to extract the .flv files to audio using one of the free extraction programs, but lately they don't seem to be working very well. Then someone here suggested I try using Audactiy to capture the audio stream. Voila.... it wo...

trouble getting right recording volume with 1.3.5

Hi, I've been trying to capture the audio stream from Youtube, and am having trouble getting the recording volume right. It seems to be generally too high, the input meter is often off scale as is the spectrum. Funny thing is that when I reduce the input volume, while recording, stop recording, and ...

Re: poor quality export

Hi Steve, Here are the files. It's the gravelly sound in the export, ChantingMP3.mp3 that I don't like. I've also sent you the aup and data files, the wave export (chantingwave.wav) and the ogg export (chantingOgg.ogg). http://shinnen.ca/ChantingMP3.mp3 http://shinnen.ca/ChantingOgg.ogg http://shinn...

Re: poor quality export

Hi Steve, Thanks again for your expertise. I should explain that I wanted to sent this to a friend in Holland. I sent her the ogg file and she said that she couldn't open it with Windows Vista. So I sent her MPC HomeCinema and told her to install it. Well....... to make long story short... she's not...

Re: poor quality export

Thanks again Steve, I tried it once more, after reducing the recording volume, and still had the same problem. But I did notice two things. 1. The recording is a mixture of speaking and chanting; and the chanting is where I see the distortion (after coverting to mp3). 2. When I convert to wav, inste...
