problem solved. i had to enable software play through on the audio i/o tab in preferences.

no output during recording
my laptop crashed and i re-installed everything including audacity 1.2.6. prior to the crash i would get audio output as it was being recorded.......not now. i can play a recording back i get normal audio from my speakers. my os is windows xp pro sp3. jbl external speakers and realtek audio output. ...
