Re: It worked, finally.....but
<<<What should I connect it to?>>> I have two new preamps coming from Radio Shack. They have a feature where they will deliver to a neighborhood Radio Shack at no cost. Works for me. I'm planning on putting together a whole system and measuring the result. I won't know where to put that ground wire...

Re: It worked, finally.....but
One other piece. What was the Radio Shack part number of the unit you bought? 42-172? Koz That's the one! I finally got off my butt this afternoon, unhooked and took the turntable out of the cabinet, so I can get going on this, but have been considering replacing the Shure M105E stylus that is in t...

Re: It worked, finally.....but
OK. First we'll do the stand-alone method. Don't do anything until you read the whole posting. Yes, you will need to buy one or two things. It's not dreadful. Phono Preamp http://www.radioshack.com/search/index.jsp?kwCatId=&kw=phono%20preamp&origkw=phono%20preamp&sr=1 I think they're the only compa...

Re: It worked, finally.....but
Koz, The reason why version 1 would be better for me, in spite of the extra expense, is that all my components are housed in a very old antique chest and it's a pain to remove them. The turntable is the easiest to get out, and since I like to listen to music in the evening, I would not be able to do...

Re: It worked, finally.....but
Hey Koz, You are too cool! 8-) If I had known about this (version 1), I would have saved over $100.00 on the sh---y USB turntable I bought! But it has been a great learning experience for me, and at least the first recording was successful, 'cause I wanted to send the resulting CDs to my fami...

Re: It worked, finally.....but
I don't have access to another computer at home to test the USB turntable, but there is a retailer nearby that carries them. I may inquire there. However, I do have a good Technics turntable as part of my stereo system. It may be worth the trouble of pulling it out of the cabinet, and getting an amp...

It worked, finally.....but
I finally got an entire vinyl recorded and burned on a CD with very good results. However, I have since had intermittent USB connection problems trying to record more albums. I got a new cable, but that hasn't helped. What can I do to improve the connection? I have an Intel based desk top iMac runni...

Re: Not recording and bad static noise
The problem with a ratty USB port is that if you're using it to transfer files like pictures, it might hit bad noise and just keep trying until it forces the file through. The USB might be remarkably bad and still work. Not so with audio. That's streaming and it can't stop and wait or try over and ...

Re: Not recording and bad static noise
What you might have is a bad USB connection. That happens a lot. Does anything else work in that connection like a printer? Try different USB connections or if you have a different Mac, try that just to make sure you don't have a broken turntable. The IONs are stunningly cheap for what you get. Som...

Not recording and bad static noise
I have an Intel iMac running OX 10.4.10. When I try to record, all I get is a bad static noise, no blue waveform, but a straight red line moving across the Audacity window very fast. I noticed in the Audio Midi Setup window that the audio output on the right side of the lower half is disabled and th...
