It is not the computer fan. The computer is away from the mic (it is a desktop).
I tried your B position with the mic and it did not make a huge difference.

Hi, I recently purchased a Rode NT-USB mic. I am planning on using it for recording meditations. However, when I try to record my voice speaking the meditations the wave is very small.
