I have found that other programs request connection to the microphone and can be allowed, but it appears that Audacity is not making a request. It works fine opening via the terminal.

Interestingly, Security and Privacy Microphone now shows Terminal as having access to the microphone - But Audacity still does not appear.

Audacity 2.3.2 in Catalina 10.15 no audio in from microphone.
I took the advice to check the Apple page.
It tells me to select the apps I want to connect to the microphone but does not say what to do if the desired app (Audacity) is not offered to be ticked.

I updated to Mac OS Catalina (official release) I also updated Audacity to 2.3.2 It is not possible to select the microphone (even on this public Catalina release) I understand that a new thing in Catalina is extra security, with disc access not being automatically granted but being set by the user....
