Dropping into record on the fly

Would it be possible to allow Audacity to drop into record while playing? If so, are there reasons for not doing so? This would often be a real benefit - well, at least to me :)

NVDA can read date field in timer dialog

A while ago I alleged that NVDA can't read the date fields when setting up a timer recording. I can now report that I was wrong, but a little keyboard gymnastics is required. Having tabbed to the date field, it is usually necessary to move NVDA to the previous object (Insert-shift-left arrow). Then,...

Gale Andrews wrote: Did you try left bracket [ or right-bracket ] to read the position of left or right selection boundary respectively? That is a revelation to me. The dialog has occasionally come up when I didn't expect it and its significance was lost on me. That is very useful. Gale Andrews wrot...

Re: Turning off audio position indicator

Thanks Gale. I discussed the issue briefly with Window-Eyes tech support by phone. Armed with more information, I will now write them a note. The issue does not (and would not) occur with NVDA due to (I'll probably get my wrist slapped) less sophisticated video support. I have set up user windows an...

Re: Turning off audio position indicator

Thanks Steve and Gale. Yes, dropping from milliseconds to seconds does fix the problem when not doing precise editing. Another work-around I have discovered is to restart the screen reader (Window-Eyes 8.2, which is current) after loading the project. No problems then with display set to millisecond...

Re: Turning off audio position indicator

Thanks Steve. I have already unchecked updating during playback, but that doesn't stop the audio position indicator from counting. I suspect that cannot be turned off without turning off the Selection Toolbar, but hoped that there may be a way.

Turning off audio position indicator

I am using Audacity 2.03 on a new machine running Windows8 and have struck an issue that hasn't occurred on other computers. With the Selection Toolbar turned on (highly preferable), my screen reader responds very sluggishly when playing or recording. I suspect it is the audio position indicator's c...

Audacity with VoiceOver (screen reader)

I am blind and have been using Audacity with Windows-based screen readers since early in the 1.3 beta phase and have enjoyed very good access. While having limited access to a Mac two or more years ago, I wished Audacity was more accessible with the in-built VoiceOver screen reader. As providence wo...

Re: Access to the Envelope Tool via the keyboard?

I have now had a chance to use FadePlus and TextEnvelope in a real situation. Having recorded some local birds, I wanted to reduce the level of a more raucous individual. As often happens, this resulted in an abrupt transition when returning to the general level. TextEnvelope did a splendid job of f...

Re: Access to the Envelope Tool via the keyboard?

Hi Steve Firstly, thanks for correcting my misplaced post. I had a suspicion I had done that. Thanks very much for the plugins. I have had a quick play with FadePlus and it looks to be absolutely what I want. Will check it out in more detail and comment further, but so far extremely impressed. Being...
